A NC native who just recently moved back home, Melissa Howsam has been writing and editing copy since 1998. She currently serves as correspondent for the News & Observer and its sister site Triangle.com. Prior to returning to Raleigh, Melissa enjoyed a short three-year stint in Chicago and DC, where, most recently, she was writing for DC magazine and On Tap Magazine and working for several local and out-of-state pubs as copy editor. She has her M.A. in English from NC State University and has supplemented her writing career over the years by teaching university writing courses at NCSU in Raleigh and DePaul University in Chicago.
